Wayne Osborn, The Man, The Nerd.
Born in Georgia in 1957 into a family belonging to an itinerant air-warfare sect (I was an Air Force brat), I spent my childhood exploring the backwoods of many interesting and not-so-interesting locales: South Carolina, Japan, Texas, Idaho, Florida, Okinawa, and Northern California. My most notable childhood achievement, besides going fishing for 32 consecutive days, was attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. I eventually came to rest in the desert outpost of Mtn. Home, Idaho, where my parents became Hobby Shop magnates. Ill content to remain at one place very long, I journeyed off to Moscow, Idaho, for training in billiards and foosball technique. As a side benefit of these endeavors, I was awarded a B.S. in Electical Engineering from the University of Idaho. After working a short time at the Naval Weapons Center at China Lake, CA., I was called into full-time Christian work, spending the next 8 years with Paragon Productions, producing and touring with a variety of multi-image presentations. In 1982 I married my current, and only, wife, Aileen. We were drawn together by our mutual revulsion at the thought of having children of our own - which continues to this day.
But the allure of weapons of mass destruction eventually drew me back to my military roots, and in 1988 I went to work at the Ballistic Missile Office (Norton AFB, CA), helping to modernize our fleet of nuclear missiles. In the process, I also found time to complete my M.S. in Systems Management from USC. Ah, but the cold war was winding down, and we weren't so much in the mood for nuking, so it became necessary to consider alternative weapon systems to work on. So back to the desert - Edwards AFB, CA - where there is... nothing. We moved to Lancaster in 1993, and remained there until our fun meter pegged-out. Longing for some greenery - any greenery - we moved in 2001 to Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas, where I was a "Career Broadener" at the Air Force Personnel Center. But once again, the urge to blow things up took hold, and I weaseled a job at the Air Armament Center at Eglin AFB. We moved in 2003 to Shalimar, FL, and were treated to multiple hurricane experiences. Anyway, after detonating, deflagrating, burning, cooking, fragging, shooting,and otherwise harrassing numerous 2000 lb. bombs, an unexpected promotion took me back to Randolph AFB in 2006, where I was not allowed to blow things up anymore; instead doing Software. In 2008 I was sent to Washington, DC for 10 months to the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (Now The Eisenhower School). They gave me an MS in National Resource Strategy in June, 2009, after which I moved to the Air Force Research Lab Munitions Directorate at Eglin AFB, as the Deputy Director. Once again, I was allowed to blow things up! However, more Software was in the cards and in 2012 I was selected as Director, 402nd Software Maintenance Group, Robins AFB, Georgia. As you might guess, blowing things up was frowned upon there. In 2015 I became Technical Director, Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, and in 2017 Technical Director, Air Foce Sustainment Center Engineering Directorate. In 2019 I joined the ranks of the retired, and until further notice will remain here in Georgia.
