Not Of This World...
I consider myself a follower of Jesus Christ, albeit a crappy one - which is why it's a good thing God accepts us just the way we are. No one can make themselves acceptable to God! Religion won't do it - only what Christ did for us.

"Circumstances"
In my experience, God has demonstrated himself as a "God of Circumstances." I have seen over and over again how He has manipulated circumstances in incredible ways, particularly with respect to prayer, and in confirmation of the fact that He is in control. Amazing things happen in very specific timeframes. Could they be coincidence? Certainly, it is possible, and I cannot know with 100% confidence that these amazing things are not purely coincidental. As humans we are dispositioned to see order in randomness - but the things I am referring to, in my opinion, are absurdly improbable and clearly non-random coincidences. So how does He do it? How does He cause a particular object to be in a particular place in answer to a prayer? How does he cause a particular person to be in a particular place and say a particular thing? How does He cause the outside world to behave in a particular way at a particular time, synchronized perfectly with what he is showing me in my life? I can only marvel at how he accomplishes this - by knowing the future, He adjusts everything to come together in just the right way, planning everthing from long ago. In some cases, there would have to be a whole series of event timelines coming together at the same time. I do not know how He does it, but I certainly believe He brings about circumstances for intended purposes. Whether to demonstrate He is in control, and I can relax; or to demonstrate that he hears and answers prayer (which may or may not be the answer I was expecting). And also, I am all the more convinced with every circumstance - God has a sense of humor! Sometimes I just have to laugh at HOW he brings things about; as if to underline the fact that He does have it under control, and maybe I should just chill out and trust Him.
Here is my first such experience:
Shortly after I became a Christian in college, I got involved in a Bible study. I initially had trouble finding Bible references during the discussions (having been a hard core athiest up to that point). I remember sitting in my dorm room praying "Lord, help me learn the books of the New Testament." Not that I couldn't learn them myself, but for some reason I prayed this. Shortly thereafter I had to make a trip to the campus computer center (back in the mainframe and punch card era), which was a pretty good walk. About half way there I realized I did not have anything to write with, and I really needed it. Immediately I prayed, "Lord please provide me a pencil," as it was too late to go back and get one. It was quite dark between the buildings I was walking by, but within a short distance (no more than 50-100 ft) I could make out what turned out to be a pencil on the ground in front of me! I thankfully picked it up and put it in my pocket, and proceeded to the computer center. I finished my assignment, and another guy I didn't know asked me if he could borrow my pencil. I thought, sure, I'm done, here you go; I didn't need the pencil any more and assumed it found a new home. But as I was headed out the door, the guy said, "wait, here's your pencil back," so I put it in my pocket and walked back to the dorm. After arriving, for the first time I pulled out the pencil and actually looked at what was printed on it. To my surprise, the pencil had a list of the books of the New Testament, and it was sharpened to the point where only the remaining books I needed to memorize were visible. I knew Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, I & II Cor., but nothing beyond, and the books remaining visible were II Cor. and the rest of the New Testament! So not only did God answer my prayers and meet my need, but he also did it in a humorous manner... I could almost sense the grin on His face!
